I'm Valeria (she/her/hers), a LatinX Designer that creates simple solutions to complex problems. My experience includes working on a range of projects that span Graphic Design, User Experience, Interface Design, and Design Strategy. At its core, my philosophy focuses on problem-solving through intentional design.
I love building meaningful relationships, finding patterns, connecting the dots, and designing purposeful experiences that are approachable and accessible. If any of these resonate with you, please feel free to reach out to me.
After some reflection, I've identified a loose framework that encapsulates my design process. Here's a peek at some of the components of my process.
First,
By listening and asking questions that help me get better context
By being open and learning from the people who experience the problem
By having the awareness to note assumptions and gaps and go in search of them
Then,
By ideating and playing with the possibilities
By finding the right visual and functional components
By testing until it runs seamlessly
By iterating, structuring, and systemizing the solution
But most importantly,
Even though I enjoy all the technical aspects of designing, I believe a lot of the magic happens in the invisible part of designing—thinking, ideating, synthesizing, and communicating.
Throughout the last couple of years, I've reflected and identified a few personal core pillars that are ever-present in my "invisible" process. Part of those pillars are:
pillars of my processs
Being open and honest—not only with others but with myself
I try to include moments of reflection throughout my work, where I challenge myself to be vulnerable, to examine how I'm doing. This space allows me to hold myself accountable while also giving me an honest view of what I need to self-improve.
Asking questions and staying open to the possibilities
Questions, questions, questions. I love asking a question. It is how I make sense of what is around me and how I tackle complex challenges. Taking a beginner's mindset to any project allows me to clear my mind and focus on creating efficient experiences that solve problems for others.
Being open and thinking through different lenses
Some of the best experiences I've had collaborating—and in life, have been when I've received empathy from others. For this reason and many others, empathy is something that I consider crucial to my process. Stepping out of my own biases and opinions, looking at things from a different perspective is something that I actively practice to create for a broad range of people.
When I'm not designing, you can find me enjoying—
Additionally, I spend a lot of time finding and exploring things that make me happy. Here are a few of my favorite things.
Creating for a positive impact.
